Socially Engaged Artist
Aoife Concannon is an interdisciplinary artist and creative producer with a socially engaged practice. Her social practice is process-led and involves workshop-based participation, engaging with the written and spoken word, audio-visuals and traditional practices of painting, drawing and making.
Her research looks at the power of physical and creative expression, with explorations of bodily autonomy, and personal and collective empowerment, central to both her own practice and her socially engaged work. She paints largely in an expressive abstract style, working intuitively with colour and texture. Her work is primarily process led, and contains both symbolic and performative output, as well as workshop-based participation.
She is a qualified yoga teacher who brings her experience in yoga, movement and meditation into my social art practice in community settings. She is currently (2023) receiving mentorship from dancer artist and choreographer Phillippa Donnellan as part of the Agility Award awarded to her by the Arts Council of Ireland.
Her works in Curation and as a Creative Producer, involves concept development, programming, coordination and collaboration with individual artists and collectives, as well as community groups, for a variety of projects and initiatives, mainly in the field of music. Poetry Ireland, Bram Stoker Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival are just some of the art organisations I have worked with in this capacity.
