Asbestos has been producing street art since 2003, utilising masks and costume to convey narratives and elicit emotions. In this work, Asbestos strive to provoke a reaction, but one that creates a dialogue between him and the audience. He strives to delve deeper into what it means to have an outer and inner self and how the masks he and everyone wears create multiple personas. Persona that we use to interact and cope with the world we’re trying to navigate.

His works have been displayed worldwide, and he was nominated for “Best International Street Art 2021” for the ‘What is Home?’ Mural in Cork that drew attention to the housing crisis in Ireland, along with creating another large scale mural on O’Connell Street as a memorial to Covid victims and he collaborated with Joe Talbot from IDLES in 2022 to breakdown the stigmas attached to mental health.

His most recent project is the film “Don’t Forget to Remember” a feature length documentary about him learning to cope with his mother’s fading memories from Alzheimer’s and how his art acts as a catalyst for rethinking the role memory plays in our relationships. The film was premiered at DIFF in 2024, and was show at Sheffield DocFest, before its cinematic release in September 2024. The film has received critical acclaim with  The Irish Times saying it is a “fascinating and rigorous piece of work” 4 Stars.
