Marija Kolmanic was born in 1985 in Croatia and has made her home in Ireland. For the past four years now, she has been working in Dublin as a visual artist. Kolmanic uses a wide variety of materials and techniques in her work influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Contemporary painting. She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions. She has also illustrated books and won public art commissions. Her daily routine of meditation and yoga influence her thinking and working practice where the theme of nonduality and self-awareness are her never-ending inspiration.
The "Remembering" opus is a series of paintings where I used old palettes to represent our memories and attachments, while the spreading whiteness on the surface represents our pure selves. Through this exploration, the opus reveals that while we develop a strong belief of who we are through personal identity, we may also be ignorant of our true nature that is ever presently here waiting to be seen. Ultimately, this opus raises important questions, a thought-provoking and engaging body of work that will inspire the audience to look more inwardly.
